Video Directing, Editing and Producing - MuleSoft

A hackathon is an intense event in which computer software developers come together to work in teams, against the clock, writing lines and lines of code, with the ultimate aim of producing new software technology in that predefined time period.

In 2012 MuleSoft decided that they wanted to stage and film their own hackathon in the Buenos Aires office of MuleSoft. The MuleSoft hackathon would be 12 hours long, from 10am until 10pm, with all of MuleSofts’ engineers from all offices flown in from around the world to participate.

I was chosen to lead the creative side of the event by producing a video which would capture the emotions and excitement of this day and could be used to kick off and publicize future MuleSoft hackathons.

I started by meeting with a film crew who would work with me. This crew would be responsible for the actual filming and audio side of the event, leaving me direct the footage of the day, and later edit and produce the video.

Working with the film and audio crew to capture the 12 hours of the day was an enthralling experience. I directed the main action, sticking to a predefined schedual which I had planned in advance. I managed and conduced the main interviews with the organizers and the developers, whist instructing spare camera men to search for moments of visual emotion and inspiration from the MuleSoft developers who where taking part in the hackathon.

After the long day had finished I was left with over 20 hours of footage from 4 different cameras. I edited this down into a three minute video which would give it’s viewers a taster of what a MuleSoft hackathon is really like.

AI wanted the story of the video to represent the day. I wanted the start of the video (like the start of the day) to be full of excitement and anticipation, with high energy and excited teams. I then wanted to sharply introduce the element of doubt, as the clock, which appears throughout the video, starts to tick away. And then from doubt, I wanted to bring to the video a sense of tired developers hacking away, before the big crescendo, which brings a sense of triumph, and achievement from the day.

The video has received rave reviews both internally at MuleSoft and externally from developers wanted to be employed by MuleSoft.

Additionally, I also designed the logo for the MuleSoft Hackathon.

Football logo design - Hemel Hempstead Town Football Club

Hemel Hempstead Town Football Club are a London based club that currently play their football in the 7th tier of the English Football League.

I approached Hemel Hempstead Town Football Club chairman David Biggins with the idea of redesigning the club's official logo in order to modernize the look and feel of the football club and bring the clubs logo design up to modern day standards.

Hemel Hempstead Town F.C. are known as The Tudors due to their geographical location's ties to the British monarchy.

The existing Hemel Hempstead Town F.C. Features a rough and sketched version of King Henry VIII. Upon seeing this design I immediately knew that the logo and the club's look and feel could be improved.

I set out to recreate the imagery of King Henry VIII, with the aim of making the figure look leaner, more sporting and more determined.

I created an accurately built grid, consisting of similar angles in order to build the updated Henry VIII graphic. I also incorporated a football being held by the afore mentioned past King of England, to give the logo relevance that this is a football teams logo.

Sticking with the royal and monarchy theme I gave the shield that houses King Henry VIII to have a castle's roof style, to further show power and defiance in the logo.

Hemel Hempstead Town F.C. are known as The Tudors due to their geographical location's ties to the British monarchy.

The logo redesign concepts and presentationwere shown and discussed at a quarterly HHTFC board meeting, however unfortunately after investigating the cost of a rebrand the club decided that it wouldn't be something that the club would look to financially back at this moment in time.

I wish the football club all the very best and hope that one day when the time is right I can be of assistance to the club.

Football logo design - Basingstoke Town Football Club

Basingstoke Town Football Club are the local football club for the picturesque town for Basingstoke in the south of England.

Basingstoke Town F.C. also known as The Dragons, play in the 7th tier of the English football league.

Upon seeing Basingstoke Town F.C.'s existing logo I knew that the club deserved better. A logo that would be an asset to the club and elevate the club to have a more professional and serious look and feel.

I designed a series of new logo concepts. Logo concepts that would range from being direct updates / clean ups of the existing logo, to logo concepts that would boldly take the club in a new and interesting visual direction.

I experimented with bringing out the clubs nickname - The Dragons, out in the new logo concepts. A dragon is a powerful majestic creature that would be a great emblem for any football club. Playing the the dragon theme would bring more meaning and life to the clubs nickname.

All logo were presented to fans of Basingstoke Town F.C. at a fans forum. The logos were well received with many fans gravitating towards an concept D, an updated version of the existing logo.

The Basingstoke Town Football Club board liked all logo redesign concepts, however the club decided to postpone the logo refresh for a couple of seasons.

I will work with them in the future to ensure that the club will get a professional new logo with strong design principles and style. I look forward to reconnecting with board members and revisiting this process.

Football logo design - Gibraltar National Team & Football Association

The Gibraltar national team have enjoyed a number of successes over recent years. From being officially recognized by UEFA as a team eligible to play in European Championship qualifiers, to having plans approved to move into a new stadium at Europa Point. The footballing infrastructure is growing for this tiny Mediterranean British colony, and I felt that now would be the time for the football association to think about developing the national teams logo.

In early 2016, I took it upon myself to redesign Gibraltar National team's logo, with the aim of offering the association a logo that would have much more personality, professionalism, relevance and own-ability.

The powerful Rock of Gibraltar is a stunning natural landmark that represents stability, as well as strength. In addition to this, for the many Gibraltarians that live on and around 'The Rock' it is a symbol of home.

I wanted to experiment with including this powerful yet homely landmark into the national football team's logo, in a way that wouldn't look cheesy nor forced.

Placing the iconic mountainous Rock shape at the peak of the design gives the logo a distinct and memorable shape that is uniquely Gibraltar.

Keeping tradition and acknowledging history is important in football logo design. So with this in mind I kept the famous red and white flag that was present in the previous logo, as well as keeping the famous Macintosh building that sits in the middle of the flag.

I introduced gold to offset and compliment the colours red and white, and also to add class and prestige to the logo.

With the national team set to move into a new stadium at the end on 2016 I felt that this would be the perfect time for the association to revamp their current look. I hopefully sent a detailed proposal that included my redesigns, however the association felt that this wasn't the time to change the logo.

I wish the Gibraltar national team all the very best in their upcoming qualifying campaign and hope to see them succeed in the new stadium.
